A one-of-a-kind stripe created by the “resist dyeing” technique
This shirt jacket is crafted using the “resist dyeing” technique, in which a lime-based paste is applied to the fabric, allowed to set, and then dyed. The stripes, created by dyeing only the areas where the paste has not been applied, feature intentional irregularities and color imbalances that give them a charm unique to handcrafted items.
Washing the fabric after indigo dyeing removes the paste, transforming the base color from pure white to a pale blue. The result is a piece with depth and character, imbued with the warmth of human hands.
Featuring elastic at the neckline, sleeves, and hem, the silhouette is a boxy cut with a relaxed fit. The elegant sheen of the silk harmonizes beautifully with the indigo hue, creating a shirt jacket that exudes a casual yet distinctly Cale-like elegance.
Why did we stock this?
The uneven stripes created by this handcrafted process are, in a good way, unlike anything Cale has done before. I thought, “I really like this.” Through the texture of the stripe pattern, I could see Japanese tradition, craftsmanship, and the hands of the artisans.
I decided to stock this piece because I felt a sense of surprise and novelty in the combination of high-quality silk and cotton fabrics with indigo dyeing.
I also think the proposal of a “shirt jacket” as a new genre is a great idea.
